-The Mage's Temple-

-APPRENTICE-

As soon as someone is discovered to have magical abilities, the Empire begins to enact safety procedures. There are several agencies that are called to investigate claims of magic potency, the primary guild is the Mage's Temple. As soon as the individual is discovered and found to be magically talented instead of afflicted with witch blight, the Mage's Temple adopts them and brings them to the safety of a temple.

It is customary that the courier gray cloaks are sent to collect these individuals from their homes abroad. The tradition is also that the newly discovered mage is to walk alongside the messenger to the temple doorway, this being the first trial of membership. Often the arrival of the mage is celebrated throughout the temple, beginning at the entry where the mage's eye adorns the temple gate and throughout the halls to the new living quarters offered to the mage. This trial is also an acknowledgement of the individual's tenacity, being able to overcome travel and change into their new life.

Shortly after arriving to the temple, the new mage must undergo the registration process. The headmaster of the temple that will be housing the mage is responsible for getting all mages registered or they can be charged with criminal action by the Imperial Inquisition. This process is done through a magic portal within the temple grounds and it leads to an unknown location managed by the Imperial Inquisition. The mage is led to this portal and must complete the following interview before returning. The interview is conducted often by a moon gifted paladin of Aurora, their divine sight allowing them to quickly observe the intentions of the mage, their history, whether or not they have the witch blight, and if they will be considered dangerous to the Empire. Their name, origin, and proposed level of hazard are then documented with the Imperial Inquisition. Upon returning to the Mage's Temple, the headmaster acknowledges the new member as an apprentice mage.

Apprentice mages are encouraged to learn at their own pace and decide their own paths. The Mage's Temple offers a wide variety of education which is offered by the order of the scholars, the red cloaks. The lessons however could be different from temple to temple as the scholars are also free to teach lessons as they want and where they want, often leading to specialized services in certain locations which gathers apprentices for focused topics.

Most apprentices eventually learn enough that they are recognized as experts and they are able to graduate to a new status within the temple. There is no set time for this process, as each individual is responsible for their own success. The drive, talent, and focus of each mage is what determines the length of their status, though any attempt to take further rank within the temple is tested by masters of their craft. An apprentice can attempt any of the ceremonies within the temple to become a red cloaked scholar, undergo training to join the gray cloaked couriers, or travel to sites of pilgrimage to become a blue cloaked battle mage. At times apprentices do separate from the temple instead of taking a deeper role in the order, using their knowledge to offer services to the Empire or return to their homelands to continue their journeys elsewhere, though they must continue to work with the registration of the Imperial Inquisition.
